I recently stayed at Ryokan Muntri Boutique for a weekend getaway. The hostel exceeded my expectations with its comfortable rooms, on par with a 4-star hotel. Thanks to the helpful staff, we were upgraded to a room with a private bathroom. The breakfast was delicious and the owner and staff were friendly, organizing social events for guests. The location was perfect for exploring Georgetown, with famous local food spots like Teo Chew cendol and Line Clear nasi kandar just a short walk away.
I highly recommend this hotel.

The design of the hostel was modern and simple, which I really liked. the location was very strategic, making it easy to explore the surrounding area. Another advantage I enjoyed was the amazing breakfast offered at the hostel. It was buffet-style and had a variety of options such as boiled eggs, noodles, roti canai, and toast.
The walls of the rooms were too thin, making it easy to hear noise from the corridor or other guests. The squeaky floors were also a bit bothersome.

The location is ideal, right in the heart of the city. There are plenty of local eateries and cafes nearby, making it convenient to grab a meal or a quick snack. The staff was friendly and helpful, always willing to assist with any questions or concerns. Plus, the complimentary breakfast offered a decent variety of warm dishes, ensuring a satisfying start to the day.
There were a few downsides to my stay. First, the WiFi signal in the dorm room was weak or nonexistent, making it difficult to stay connected.

I chose Ryokan Muntri Boutique for its great proximity to the Penang 3D Trick Art Museum, a place I really wanted to visit. But I was pleasantly surprised by the wired Internet access and dry cleaning/laundry services. The hostel's location on 'love lane' made it easy to explore the nearby food and bar road, which I loved.
The aircon in the room was freezing cold and blew straight into my bed. It would be better to have curtains on each bed and a light installed close to each bed to avoid waking everyone up when turning on the lights.

The owner is mind-blowingly helpful, always making sure we had an amazing stay. The hostel is super clean, with daily room cleaning and a huge, sparkling shower area. The free wifi was jaw-droppingly fast, allowing us to watch HD YouTube videos without any lag. Breakfast was a feast, with more than enough food to keep us full. The staff organized fun social events and the lounge area was comfortable, filled with books and board games. The straightforward location allowed us to walk everywhere and the kaya spread at breakfast was simply delicious. Plus, the staff booked a train ticket for us when we couldn't do it ourselves. The showers and toilets were clean and there was strong AC in the rooms, which we could easily switch off. The location near the water was great, and the hostel even organized activities. Amazing!
